AUD is a drinking problem that affects about 17 million adults. It is a major cause of sickness, death and is one of the most prevalent mental health disorders.
A new study published in the Journal of Pediatrics, by Duncan B. Clark, MD, PhD, and his team at the University of Pittsburgh, looked at AUD cases among teens.
They studied 1,193 adolescents ages 12 to 20 at six rural primary care clinics in Pennsylvania.
There are different levels of severities with AUD, according to the National Institutes of Health. A response of yes for at least two of the eleven questions indicated AUD. Mild AUD was indicated by two to three yes responses. Moderate AUD was indicated by four to five yes responses and severe responded yes to six or more.
