How I stopped drinking alcohol

In the 75 hard challenge one of the requirements is to stop drinking alcohol for the entire length of the challenge.

The one thing I hear everyone say the most about why they couldn’t do 75 Hard is because of their social life.

In this video I am going to tell you my top 3 tips and top 3 results from stopping drinking.

I truly think alcohol is the worst drug problem we have in this country. The problem is, it’s normalized. Binge drinking is normalized. It starts in high school and college and by the time youre out, you’ve either fallen too far down the booze hole and you’re a regular at the dive bars, or you some how manage a semi to very successful life, but you still have a bigger liquor collection than library.

If you haven’t heard the song, look up Blake Shelton’s The More I Drink. Every line in that song, was who I was. And believe me it was fun. But I have had enough of it and I don’t want fun. I want my son to be proud of me. I want to leave a positive impact on this world that’s lasting when I am gone.

We as a country have so many problems and I really think our constant daily sedation of needing a drink to destress from a hectic day in the office, holds us back individually and together as a great nation.

I am going to share with you my most helpful tips that got me to quit drinking alcohol once and for all.

My names Ryan and I am currently in the 1st phase of the live hard program, that starts with 75 days, of 75 hard. Making videos just like this is part of my daily self imposed power task because I want to help as many people better their lives in the same way 75 hard has done for mine.

I have a thousand reasons that I stopped drinking, but my number one reason was I want to be around for my son as long as possible and I will do anything I can in my power to keep it that way.

On to the tips!

What helped me?

Having a workout to look forward to in the AM.
I had to get up early, which meant I can’t stay out late.
Getting up early made me tired earlier which made me really not want to go out.
Which lead to going out less.
Which led to waking up early for the workouts much easier.
The more you disappear into your own world the more respect folks will have for you, even if they bust your chops.

Have something else to work on. Start up a side hustle, occupy that time. Save the money on going out, save the money on the booze you’d drink, save the money on the Ubers, sit at home, and build a business as you’re saving money. Your bank account is going to love you.

Sparkling water
My number one most helpful tip is to consume sparkling water or club soda.
At home you have a la-croy or bubbly or whatever you want in a can.
You’re putting your can in a coozie and taking sips.
You snap the can, you get that audible can cracking sound.
You take that first sip and the carbonation hits your lips, then mouth, then esophagus, all the way down to your belly, and you have a truly refreshing response.
You burp, just like you’re drinking your beer.

If you’re out in public and you are in a social setting where it’s pretty expected to have a drink in your hand, order a club soda, with lime. Most of the time the bartenders will make the drink, in the same glass as an alcoholic drink, and you will sip on it while hydrating yourself, while you talk to your colleagues as they dehydrate themselves.
No one will no and if anyone busts your chops when you order, stand proud and remember the ones that care dont matter and the one’s that matter don’t care.

While they get drunk, you have a hyper clear experience and are on your toes.

While in the beginning it feels super awkward, you realize that the tool you needed to get loosened up or relax is the tool that is making you stressed out by not leaning on it. Because you realize you never needed it. It’s a facade. Yeah it makes conversations easier, because it makes us dumber, I’m telling you. We’re all drunk resort monkeys.

Finally I wanted to talk about some of the positive results from being sober now almost 2 years as of filming this.

Before I do that, if you feel these tips are helpful and you know someone who could use a listen to this, please subscribe and share with a friend. I am focused on putting on relatable content to help us all live our best lives.

First off, after the initial awkward phase of not drinking in social settings, I am more outgoing, and confident that I have ever been.

I wake up ready to conquer the day, every day, even on Saturdays and Sundays.

My bank account has wayyyy more money in it than if I had just kept having fun, which actually believe it or not, allows me to have way more fun, sober, than I thought I would be having if it was sober.

Alcohol is a thief that robs you of your health, your time, and your money and those are they three biggest factors into why I stopped.
