I’m incredibly proud of all it’s achieved in that time – with film festivals and broadcasts in every corner of the globe, theatrical screenings from Hollywood to Adelaide, educational screenings at universities and schools, award nominations at Academy Award qualifying film festivals and streaming free with Amazon Prime. It has achieved more than I ever could have hoped, especially for a low-budget indie documentary with a tiny guerrilla crew. But in my eyes, the most profound success comes in the form of messages I’ve received from people who have come away from the film with a deeper understanding of addiction, from the people who have found it re-enforced their own sobriety, or empowered or inspired them in some way to make positive changes in their lives and habits.

The film was also a vehicle for myself, as someone who neither drinks nor sees the appeal of drinking, to better understand the grasp alcohol appeared to have on many of those around me, and the way in which alcohol permeates so many aspects of our culture.

A huge thank you to all who supported the project throughout its three years in production and since it’s release, especially Russell Brand, Silver Levy-So, Chip Somers, Veronica Valli, Carrie Armstrong, Louise Rowlinson, Simon Bowen, Shama Hussain, Leonard Buschel, Paul Hooper, Persia Lawson, Joey Rayner, Sally Marlow, Journeyman Pictures, Sunscreen Film Festival and Cleveland Independent Film Festival.

A Royal Hangover is a feature-length documentary on the UK’s ambivalent alcohol culture, featuring a stellar cast led by former alcohol addict Russell Brand.

Critically acclaimed filmmaker and accomplished non-drinker, Arthur Cauty, serves up a documentary mocktail, in equal parts shocking, hilarious, sympathetic and thought provoking; a film we can all relate to.

This is the 55 minute broadcast cut. For the 80 minute extended theatrical cut, check out A Royal Hangover on Amazon Prime, or enquire with Journeyman Pictures at info@journeyman.tv
