There is NO safe limit of alcohol use.
Alcohol use is associated with severe detrimental effects on the nervous system.
Short term hazards include:
1. Impairment in judgement and decision making- increasing the risk of road traffic accidents and vehicle crashes, as well as criminal behaviour or intent.
2. Imbalance while walking
3. Loss of consciousness.
Long-term hazards include:
1. Cognitive impairment and dementia
2. Increased risk of strokes- both ischemic and hemorrhagic
3. Seizures
4. Vision impairment
5. Hearing loss
6. Imbalance while walking
7. Tingling, burning and pain in feet and hands
8. Increased risk of depression, anxiety and psychosis
9. Increased suicide risk
10. Alcohol dependence.
