Dr. Connor Farren talks about the relationship between the consumption of alcohol and depression. He explains the thinking behind the new terminolgy ‘Alcohol Use Disorder’ and the checklist of 11 criteria, 2 of which are needed to be diagnosed with AUD. Dr. Farren explains that mild depression is magnified by alcohol and that research proves that mood levels can significantly improve even after a break from alcohol of just 10 days. Dr. Farren talks about two of his recent publications and a treatment programme that he developed. He stresses that when alcohol misuse is involved both the alcohol dependency and depression must be treated.
