Alcoholism- One is never enough.- The story of my Last Drunk.

I wanted to reflect on my last drunk. After over a year of “attempting to quit drinking” I was going through phases trying to test the situation. Maybe this time I could drink just one. Unfortunately that is not how true addiction works. No matter how much sober time you have, it immediately picks back up where you left off. You go through many phases- denial, reservation, committment but then thinking your cured, “I got this”, and then maybe you finally realize you have zero control over the situation and you give up. Maybe something encourages you to stop drinking either positive or something of negative consequence.

Many people struggle with this exact same cycle or something similar of their own description, but the fact remains that alcoholism and addiction never allow you to simply chill out and use or drink responsibly and control it. My last attempt started off with a single pint of vodka, then throughout the day there was another and then another. Maybe there was a half pint thrown in thinking that I could cut it off after that… but then another pint. The end result was pulling over into a pull off, getting called in dead by a passerby and the police coming. I did get a DUI as a result and had to go to the hospital and had a BAC of .439 when it was drawn hours later. The next day fortunately there was no withdrawal. I lived and knew immediately that was it for me. I didnt know how to stop but I knew I had to figure out how and fast.

The rest is history, I couldnt feel better now…. I truly mean that. I cannot say that I conquered alcoholism because we never do. The minute I forget that… I will die. It takes work and a conscious effort every single day.

This channel was designed to follow my journey after I discovered how to stop drinking and successfully stay sober each day. Since then I have learned the value of community as I reach out to help and reach out for help and encourage others quit drinking and stop drug use. After coming out of rehab many guys from the rehabilitation center have already relapsed but yet immediately jumped back on the sober life. We encourage each other and continue to try and spread the message and help others figure out how to stop drinking and stop alcohol abuse and chemical dependence. Other guys have been helping by sharing their own stories of experience strength and hope and how their life after addiction has changed them. Some are overcoming legal and health problems. The simple point is that if we do not do what we can to make an impact and try to stop drinking and slow down addiction than it will continue to lead to arrests and deaths. The opiate, opioid, heroin and other drug epidemics are claiming lives both of the addicts themselves and the destruction of those around them. I am glad that I learned how to stop alcohol abuse and hopefully will continue to stay sober and live a happy and healthy life in sobriety. My friends and are are very passionate about helping others so that they do not have to go down the same roads as we have in our addictions and abuse. Welcome to daily recovery.
