Alcohol abuse inhibits the absorption of calcium in the intestines. When the body senses a decline in calcium it tells the parathyroid gland, which releases parathormone.

Parathormone’s function is to regulate the calcium in the blood. To regulate calcium, it goes to the bone and takes it away from there in order to maintain the proper levels in the body.

By doing this, however, it decreases the density in bones which can lead to osteoporosis and make you more susceptible to fractures.
