Britain has tough laws against many drugs, including heroin, cannabis and smoking. Even Shisha pipes are banned from indoor spaces.
Yet every Friday and Saturday evening, millions of Britons flood into bars to get drunk, behave in embarrassing ways and pick fights with strangers.
While the United Kingdom does not agree with the laws of other countries where drinking is banned, it sets alcohol aside from all other drugs as acceptable, even though it is responsible for broken families, thousands of deaths and millions of pounds in health care as a result of its misuse. And, so far, the government has been powerless to prevent any of it.
