If a teenage starts acting differently for no reason such as acting withdrawn, frequently tired or depressed, or hostile it could be a sign he or she is developing a substance related problem. Parents and others may overlook such signs, believing them to be a normal part of puberty.

There are signals that may indicate your child is using substance. The problem is often times, the signals are covered by something else. Below are the list of signs to watch out for.

Behavioral signs of substance abuse disorder:

Skipping class, lower grades, getting trouble at school.

Complaints from classmates and teachers.

Locking doors and avoiding eye contact.

Eye drops to make eyes that are bloodshot or dilated appear unimpaired

Over the counter materials that can be used for getting high such as computer cleanser, nail polish/nail polish remover, white out, hairsprays or other inhalants are found in personal belongings

Drug paraphernalia such as pipes, bags of seeds, rolling papers, empty bottles in the bedroom, baggies of pills etc.

Nowadays, world can be punitive and painful place sometimes its unforgiving place. Drug dealers are not going to practice restriction just because your child is under-aged or innocent.
