The Texas agency that regulates alcohol sales is considering allowing the sale of alcohol at guns shows, as long as the shows don’t offer live ammunition or let buyers take possession of guns at the event.

Under current regulations, locations licensed by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission must stop alcohol sales and drinking during gun shows, including during setup and dismantling of the shows.

The proposal was announced last Friday and is now open to public comments for 30 days. A decision could come as early as November. If passed, locations owned and leased by government or nonprofit organizations could sell alcohol has long as they met three conditions: There can be no live ammunition on the premises; all guns must be β€œdisabled and not readily convertible for use;” and no guns sold can be given to buyers at the facility.

The changes would also allow alcohol sales at historical reenactments that involve firearms.

Concealed-handgun carriers and open-carry proponents are no doubt concerned they would be prohibited from entering the premises, but the commission says not worry.
