Ministry of Health officials have expressed concerns over the rise in reported cases of mental illness in the country.

In a press briefing held this morning, the officials also revealed that the increase in mental illness is significant among younger people and this has largely been attributed to drug and alcohol abuse.

According to the health ministry, the dire situation is compounded by the fact that the country is experiencing an acute shortage of mental health specialists.
