Is “minor in possession of alcohol” a crime?

Per Business & Professions Code 25662, it’s a misdemeanor crime for a minor (someone under 21 years of age) to possess or consume alcohol in a public place.

Although “minor in possession” can only be punished with community service and fines (no jail, prison or juvenile hall time), it still counts as a misdemeanor and can give the person a criminal record.
