We sat down with mum and daughter, Anne and Jodie, to talk about Anne’s experience of recovering from alcohol addiction and the treatment she received at Priory Hospital Hayes Grove.

“My family were starting to notice that I was withdrawing from family activities, and if I did come I didn’t stay very long. I sometimes could get angry at family functions.

“I wasn’t managing and I knew at that point that I needed to do something about it, “Anne said.

Talking about her experience as a family member of something with addiction issues, Jodie said:

“I said for years, quite a long time to be honest… that I need my Mum to stop drinking.

“I thought it was normal for your parents to drink, basically a bottle of wine a night.”

Talking about Anne’s treatment, Jodie explained, “It’s changed my Mum, not only in the sense that she doesn’t drink anymore, she’s a much nicer person.”

Anne completed her addiction treatment at Priory Hospital Hayes Grove.

At Hayes Grove, we are able to deliver established treatment for a wide range of addictions, including alcohol and drug addictions, as well as a series of broader behavioural addictions such as gambling, love and sex, internet and shopping addictions. Our experts understand that all forms of addiction can have a profoundly negative effect on all aspects of your life, as well as your general health and wellbeing. Without specialist treatment, addictions and addictive behaviours may become progressively worse over time, and lead to a whole host of long-term physical and psychological problems.

We also offer a family and couples programme as part of our addiction treatment programme.
