Many struggle with alcoholism and other addictions, and today Paul shares his story of sobriety.

Since Paul didn’t get a DUI, didn’t struggle to keep up with work, etc he found it hard to admit that he had a problem. He even recalls driving over 100mph on the freeway at night and still not thinking he had a problem because everything looked good on paper. It wasn’t until he struggled with thoughts of suicide that he realized he had a problem.

Finding tools that could replace the need for alcoholism where the key to his recovery. What he was really seeking was relaxation and confidence. So finding that same feeling when not high or drunk was an eye opening experience and his first step in recovery.

Building up your self-esteem was also part of Paul’s recovery process, and something that he not only got through his support groups but also by doing small thoughtful things each and every day.

Relapse is very common in recovery, and Paul shares that the more you put in your recovery tools, the more you will see results. He urges you not to cut any corners here because you are only cheating yourself! It’s always helpful to go to your meetings, talk to your sponsor, and take your medication. Honest! He also shares how helpful it can be to others when you decide to go to a meeting not because you need it, but because it may be helpful to someone else.

Lastly, Paul shares that he finally feels recovered because he no longer feels the urge to drink. It’s the healthiest place he has ever been in, and it’s due to his work in therapy, his constant attendance at support groups, and the support of those who love him that is where he is today!! Over 12 years sober!! xoxo
