The first and most simple hangover cure is of course to drink in moderation. If that’s not an option you can prepare yourself for a night of drinking by eating fatty foods before you imbibe. The fats will line your stomach and slow down the absorption of alcohol.Drink vodka. A study published in the journal ‘Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research’ found that vodka gave participants less of a hangover than Bourbon. They attribute this to the higher amount of toxins, called congeners, in dark liquors created by the fermenting process.Drinking alcohol dehydrates you and that is the chief cause of hangovers. So drinking water before, during after a night of heavy drinking is the best way to cure a hangover. Energy and sports drinks with electrolytes are also a good idea. But, if you’re still feeling terrible the morning after a night of heavy drinking the best thing to do is to nourish your body with nutrient rich foods like fruits and vegetables. One common remedy is the so-called ‘hair of the dog’. The idea is that the morning after a heavy night of drinking, drinking a little more will trick the body out of the hangover temporarily. However, we weren’t able to find any science to back up the claims, so we can’t recommend this method.Last, but not least, get lots of sleep.Thumbnail: flickr user magrolino
